01 — What is it?
What is the EU Taxonomy?
The EU Taxonomy is a European classification system that defines when an economic activity, including owning, building or renovating property, can be described as environmentally sustainable. For buildings, it sets out specific criteria on energy performance, climate risk, water, materials and other topics.
An assessment checks a building against these criteria, identifies what evidence already exists, what is missing, and what would need to change for the building to be considered aligned. It is increasingly requested by investors, funds and lenders that report under European sustainability rules.
